Photography, Horticulture, Cookery, Children’s Art and a Fun Dog Show

Here are our virtual competitions!  All you have to do is take photos of your entries and send them through to our Country Fair email address   A maximum of 3 entries per person per category please.

All photos received will be put into an Album of entries per category and sent to the relevant judge by the closing date of midnight on Wednesday 19thAugust.  The photos will be given a reference number so that the judges do not see any names!

The entries will be judged online, so each photo only needs to be of a medium size.  Don’t worry too much about this, as we just want to see your photos.  Please save your photo as a jpeg/jpg file.  If you are a photo whizz then, a size of 1,600px on the long side at 72ppi giving a file size up to about 3MB would be ideal.

Make your photo(s) look as good as possible by using in-camera adjustments or your computer skills. Give us your best shot!

Entries can be in colour or black and white.

ATTACH YOUR PHOTO ENTRIES as jpeg’s to an Email or Emails containing the following information:

The Category you are entering

  1. Your name
  2. For a children’s entry, please provide name and age.

By sending a photo you agree for us to publish it along with your name on our Facebook page.

If your entry includes a photo of a child, we assume that by you sending it to us we have your permission to put the photo and name up on our Facebook page.

It is up to the owner to Copyright a photo if they wish to do so.

The fun is in the taking part, we can’t award our show cups and prizes this year but you will receive an online certificate for 1st, 2ndand 3rdplaces.

Charles Francis, a professional photographer will be judging the photographic category and has very kindly offered to give the adult winner a chat about photographic techniques and a walk around Heligan at a mutually convenient time.

When all the judges have chosen their winning photos we will post them on our Facebook page on Sunday 23rdAugust (our original Fair date) along with the winner’s names.

We’ll also post as many other entries as we can on Virtual Show Day.

Garden Hideaways

Bird’s Eye View of a Scavenger Hunt Photo i.e. Collect a list of any 10 fairly small objects which you have found and create a single photo including them all looking down onto the objects i.e. A Birds Eye View.  Your finds could be anything from a beach shell, toy car, apple, spoon, whatever you want!

  • A cut single bloom in a vase
  • Blooms in situ in your own garden
  • Summer posy or bouquet

  • Tree Fruit x 3 on a plain plate
  • Currents/Berries x 6 on a plain plate
  • Vegetables in situ in your own garden
  • Leafy Vegetables x 3
  • Tomatoes/Cucumbers/peas/beans x 3
  • Root vegetables x 3
  • Unusual Shaped Vegetable or Fruit

  • An animal made from Fruit and/or Vegetables

COOKERY – Adult (and children 13 and over)

A Summer Showstopper Cake.  Obviously we can’t taste the cake, but we can go by the novelty of the decoration and the visual impact it provides.   Anything to do with Summer so splash out with your artistic skills, the cake is your limit!

COOKERY – Children (up to 13 years of age)

A decorated Cake, Cup Cake or Biscuit with an animal theme. Again, we are unable to taste your creation, so impact and originality is the key.

The theme this year is Mini Beasts and Creepy Crawlies.  Again, anything goes. You can use any media you like; whether you prefer to do a 2D painting or a 3D sculpture, models or collage – the ideas are endless, so go wild!

The hint is in the title – ‘FUN”!   It will be difficult to judge the waggiest tail so we are going for:

  • Dressed up Dog
  • Let Sleeping Dogs Lie
  • Dog Selfie/Photo-bombed by your dog.
